چکیده

In this book, Dr. Rollin shows that there is a group (composed almost entirely of chronic schizophrenics) who do extremely badly after their discharge from mental hospitals. They break the law because of their inability to look after themselves in the community and although proceedings are sometimes taken against them before they are transferred to a mental hospital, others are never prosecuted, but are re-admitted directly. The background and subsequent careers of this group of patients are examined with reference to diagnosis, type of offence, previous mental hospital and prison admissions and subsequent rates of discharge, absconding and readmissions. This part of the book provides a useful, factual survey, though confined to the experience of Horton Hospital. Dr. Rollin may be quite correct in assuming that similar patterns must be occurring in other mental hospitals, but Horton do seem to have got more than their fair share of this type of patient, partly because of the catchment area they
